Over the holidays, we were lucky enough to have four WHOLE days (miracle!) to enjoy a bit of the light that goes with festivities. We spent the time celebrating both of our birthdays, heading to Mount Juliet estate for a night away (the smell of an open fire there is magical) and the rest of it surrounded by Adam's sweet family in Portlaoise who never fail to welcome us with open arms even with a quietly grumpy, recovering flu patient (me). It was a much needed step away from reality where evenings usually involve crowding around a fire, hilariously competitive board games and elastic waist bands for that third helping one promises she won't have- thank you Louise for that one ;)
We celebrated Adam's birthday on the 30th until the early hours of New Year's eve and then brought in the New Year with a big take-away bucket of chicken and a movie.
This holiday season has evolved into a treasured time for togetherness - where we all unwind, recharge and pretend that the next Christmas really isn't that far away. It's a special time with his family that I am unapologetically smitten and grateful for each year.
