I met Erica Van Horn and Simon Cutts on a grey, cloudy day in their beautiful bungalow in Tipperary. The piece was for Gardenista two years ago, she an American writer and he a British poet, it really came as no surprise to suddenly be surrounded by books, ceramics, poetry on walls and Coracle- a small publishing press in their back garden. Everything had a story and everything in its place.
'' I prefer the stream of the mountains to the sea. '' is the inscription painted on the front of their home.
It was easy to be taken with them through their stories: how they found this bungalow through a farmer while hitch-hiking, how blue ceramics, foraged meals, print and their beloved sheepdog Em filled this space with love. They let me roam while I took photographs and the quiet still of the Comeragh mountains in the backdrop had me taken.
I've always felt more of a city girl but lately, especially being in Kerry this past month, has left me feeling the same way- taken for the quiet still.
Feeling so grateful to have this time on this side of the country.
