Every now and again, I get overly impulsive. Those moments usually occur post night shifts or long periods of work where I feel like I must cram every single bit of fun activity I can in the days I have free. Booking holidays, riding bikes in the rain, watching a series for hours on end- all during those whims. Tucking away on a Monday night into The Ninth? Easily one of the best impulsive, on a whim decisions made in a good long while!
Occupying a sweet little spot in Fitzrovia, The Ninth is a French Mediterranean style restaurant serving up beautifully unassuming dishes, thoughtfully measured portions and flavours that deliver faultless performances course after course. The dessert treat of pain perdu (literally meaning ‘lost bread’) had me smitten from the very first bite .
Imagine brioche french toast soaked in a crème anglais, sprinkled with caster sugar, carmelised with a blowtorch and served up with a dollop of ice cream…dear reader, it is pure bliss.
Fiachra, a gentleman who does not speak in quite as many superlatives as I, described it as wonderful. High praise indeed ;)
And as luck would have it , just in time for this post I have stumbled upon the very recipe for this pain perdu online here!
If you’re going for a visit (and I sincerely hope you do), nearest tube stations are Goodge Street and Tottenham Court Road.
